My teenager and I decided that the coldest day of the season, January 31st, 2026, would be a fantastic day to go to DisneyWorld. I took the picture on the left at Disney’s Hollywood Studios while walking toward The Tower of Terror. The original picture has no focal point, emotional impact, and no story is being told.
I wanted to focus on creating a focal point. The tower itself was an easy selection, but I wanted to make sure it was dynamic. Instead of centering the tower, I made sure to use the rule of thirds and put it in the upper right corner. This also accomplished cropping out unnecessary details, such as the signs and stalls off to the side.
Hi Christina! I was happy to see that you were in my feedback group this week, because I really connected with your post when I first saw it! I was also at Disney that same freezing weekend, and the setting is super familiar as I am in the parks often. 😊
The crop makes a big difference in how the image reads. In the original photo, there’s a lot going on and my eye isn’t quite sure where to land, but in the cropped version the Tower clearly becomes the focus and feels much more intentional.
Focusing in on the Tower changes the image from a crowded park moment into something that feels more dramatic and memorable. Cropping out the extra signs and people really helps the Tower stand out on its own. You could also try bringing the frame in just a little more to make it feel even bigger, but I think your crop works really well and clearly strengthens the image!
I think focusing on the Tower of Terror building in the background creates the illusion that it is the main focus of the image! Which was a wonderful idea on your part, Christina! If I hadn’t seen the original photo, I would have assumed the building was the primary subject of the photograph. I really like how you made the building feel imposing, especially with the palm tree positioned closer to the viewer. Since the palm tree takes up most of the foreground and the left side of the image, it makes the building feel like an ominous presence on the right.
Hi Christina! Great job cropping this image to make the main focus of the picture the actual Tower of Terror building. I remember being absolutely terrified of this ride as a kid. In the original picture, it is mainly focused on the surrounding areas of the ride with the palm trees around and the people walking towards and away from it. I believe the crop makes a huge difference on how the image reads and it’s meaning, great job!
