Hi Heather,
Great job on your video! I really appreciated your use of video clips instead of just still images. They complemented each other very well.
Given the song choice and most of the images and video clips used I felt the main theme of the story was highlighted well that you can work hard and play hard. However, a couple of the images made me wonder if the story was also about being left out or excluded. I have watched a couple of times and I keep wondering if this is an intentional part of the story. If it is, it might be good to create a stronger narrative to help establish this point. This may mean switching the order in which images or videos played. If it’s not, it might be a good to remove these clips, and create a stronger contrast between working hard and playing hard.
Just a note about your credits, specifically regarding Pexels. From what I have understood Pexels does have some images that are licensed under CC0, but I believe those images or video will explicitly say if the image or video is CC0. Otherwise, from what I understand it is licensed under the Pexels license. I could be wrong in my understanding, but it might be worth double checking the licensing credit for the images and videos.
I thought your song was a great choice for this video. I think it works well to highlight the contrast between working hard and playing hard. I thought you edited really well to the beat and used the changes in the song really well when selecting the different clips.
This was a fun video to watch. Again I really liked your use of video clips in it. Great job!
Hey Heather! This video was like watching a music video, with your images/video illustrating the lyrics. It was fun! I think the images worked very with your music; the pacing was very good. I also wondered about some of the images; they seemed to imply that maybe working hard had its downside such as being left out or excluded as Caitlin mentioned. Your credits page was unique, I want to know how to do that fade.
Heather this is excellent work! To me it was subtle at first, but as the images continue I really connected to the realities you showed of the hard work it takes to play hard. Those late nights like the image of the young woman surrounded by papers across the floor with her laptop, or replying to that email while you’re at a party, and ignoring what others are saying about you. In that way I would say it did develop. The audio choice was good, it was lighthearted and well timed so that it felt like we were playing hard but the lyrics of midnight and working hard are lined up with the right pictures and the timing was good. I did feel that exclusion and alienation that comes with working hard in your pictures of working hard, and then the play hard was social, so I think that was in there even if it was subtle.
Thanks!
Kiani
