Hi Chrislene. I love the accent in your voice and the drums along with the background music. Overall, I had a relaxing feeling when listening to your voice. Your voice was clear and I could hear everything accurately.
I do believe that the podcast topic could get an audience. I think the audience could be anyone looking for a good story, children and adults alike, or even history enthusiasts. What I found most interesting about the podcast is the title combined with the drums and voiceover. I think you did a great job pairing these together.
I did not notice any distractions, technical glitches or problems. Overall, I think you did a great job. My only critique would be to move the flag on the cover art so that both the woman and flag could be seen. I think they are both important when people are searching for a visual to pair with the audio for this podcast.
Hi Chrislene! What an engaging, cultural storytelling experience! I loved the inclusion of the drums, as it fit well with the pace of your voice and the plot of the story. While I wish I could have heard the entire thing, the overall tone felt adventurous, with suspenseful undertones. I think your podcast could appeal to various audiences, including: educators, students, and those looking to expand their literary knowledge. Oral storytelling is a powerful tool, and I think you did an excellent job drawing listeners in with the crisp attention of your voice while narrating the story. My main suggestion for improvement would be to lower the background music a tad more, as there were times where I felt myself straining to follow along because the music threatened to drown out your words. I’d also suggest including a few subtle sound effects where appropriate to elevate the storytelling experience and allow listeners to feel fully immersed. I would also consider editing the podcast image to feature lighter fonts, as the wording fades into the background–making it difficult to read (especially on a smaller screen). Other than that, great work.
Hi Chrislene!
I love the idea for this podcast! I’m a huge fan of folktales, and it would be awesome to see some gain life through a podcast. I think it would be neat to include an analysis portion either within the episode alongside the story or in a separate episode– some talking about what the folktale means to you or others, what its possible historical origins were, what role it has played in the communities it has spread through, etc. But this is the storytelling nerd in me talking. It would also just be cool to hear well-edited audio renderings of Haitian folktales!
Your voice was very clear, and I liked how I could tell the difference between when you were narrating and when you were speaking as a character. While I like the choice of the drums, I think that they could have been a little quieter in order to hear your voice better. You also may want to increase the contrast and brightness/vibrancy of the image you chose, as it looks a little bit faded as-is. Great work!
