Hello Emily,
You did a nice job composing your design with a right-aligned text box that uses a red background to call attention to the text. The image itself is quite dense with visual information, so I think your color choice does a nice job of guiding the viewer to your intended message. The rainbow border, incorporating the color of the pride flag, helps partition the design while reinforcing your concepts. Your font choices bring to mind physical print media like books and newspapers, fitting nicely together. I wonder how the design might change if you used fonts that emulate handwriting, bringing to mind the hand-made sign from the image and those common at political demonstrations and protests. I got a chance to visit the Stonewall in last summer. Unfortunately, it was in the early afternoon and no one was hanging around at that point, otherwise we probably would have stuck around for a while. It was a great experience, but perhaps even more exciting to me was getting to check out Segal’s sculptures across the street at Christopher Park. Have you gotten to check it out? It’s an essential spot for U.S. history buffs!
Hey Emily! This is such a powerful image. It holds a lot of meaning and I appreciate the design choice you made with your type. The font is clear, bold, simple in contrast with the image. The double textbox with the glowing rainbow underneath is a nice touch.
This is powerful. I love the use of red which is a call to action. It shows urgency. And I love the use of a rainbow border behind it as a caveat. The picture is powerful because of the candles of those who lives were cut short. I like the busyness of the photo aswell.
