I wanted a fun, colorful and funky photo to use for this assignment and the first thing that came to mind was a chameleon. Chameleons are my favorite reptile as well. This image specifically stuck out to me due to the composition, the contrast of colors, and how vibrant it is. The background also stuck out to me due to the colors and the bokeh like blur that is making the background out of focus. This puts more of a focus and emphasis on the tree limb and the chameleon. The jazz guitar sound adds to the funky look of the chameleon as the chameleon is very vibrant and colorful. I wanted to use a rainforest sound but then I changed my mind because I wanted to go with something more outside of the box. I looked at rave music, lo-fi, and house music but then I found this Jazz sound. The sound titled “more Jazz guitar.wav,” is a 120 beats per minute which creates the relaxed and upbeat ambience Then calm jazz guitar music created a different vibe and ambience which helped to change the meaning of the photograph and how you look at the chameleon.

Hi Katie! I loved this. Chameleons are so fascinating. When I only looked at the image, I expected a high energy sound–a little chaos because of all the colors. But then, it was such a peaceful sound that played. I felt myself take a deep breath and I smiled at the thought of this little guy taking his time to slowly walk through the branches. Beautiful!
Hello Katie. I love the sound selection you landed upon for your image of the chameleon. For me, the slow and subtle beginning jazz riffs of the smooth electric guitar align with my imagination of the chameleon slowly climbing the branch. The last five seconds of the riffs progress in a fast yet smooth rhythm which then makes me focus on the beautiful and vibrant colors of the chameleon. The photo you chose just pops! The only constructive criticism I could think of for this assignment is having a longer sound file to go with the photo, I did have to click on play multiple times to eventually get me to a complete appreciation and vision of the combination you created. Excellent work!
What a striking photo! I totally agree with your choice of jazz music to pair with the chameleon. The chameleon’s colors give a funky style, and the short snippet of music completes the vibe. I like to think the chameleon can hear the music and is just chilling in the branches. It’s interesting how the choice of music affects the viewing of the image. I feel like if you had chosen rave music, which is a favorite of mine, it would have totally changed the smooth, calm of the chameleon climbing.
