Nearly six years ago I took a trip to Greece and as every other tourist before me and since I had to stop and see the Parthenon. I took the original photo below from the Acropolis Museum during my trip. As you can see it is hard to see the main focus of the picture as there is a lot of buildings that are distracting your eye from the Parthenon.
The cropped picture leaves out all the extra stuff that I don’t care about! I was able to crop the buildings out and have the Acropolis and the Parthenon be the main focus of the photo. I also decided to keep the cranes in on the right side of the picture because it emphasizes the construction zone that has become this great temple.
By cutting out those distracting buildings, you’ve really made the Parthenon stand out. It’s like putting a spotlight on the star of the show! I totally get what you mean about wanting to remove the clutter and let the beauty of the Acropolis shine through. I love that you left the cranes in on the right side. It adds a bit of a modern twist, doesn’t it? Plus, it’s a neat reminder that even ancient wonders like the Parthenon are still a work in progress. If I had any suggestions, it might be fun to play around with different crops to see how they change the vibe of the photo. Maybe try one where you keep more of the surrounding scenery for some extra context.
I love historical architecture, and, of course, what could be more famous to my Western eyes than the Parthenon in Athens. You really did change the story to point the viewer specifically to that edifice. I also think your new version suggest a metaphor, as the base seems more important as well. So, it seems that the solid foundation might be suggesting something about the importance of our cultural history and how it needs to be supported or lifted up.
