For this assignment, I wanted to do something a little humorous. I have always loved memes, and usually respond in my group chats with reaction gifs. When I saw this frog, I instantly knew he would be perfect. Even though I am terrified of frogs in real life (like I definitely do not want one to jump on me), I still find them somewhat adorable? I mean, look at this little guy. He’s absolutely “ribbeting”…
I almost went in a completely different direction with the sound. You know how when someone is talking to you, but all you are doing is screaming on the inside? Or, think of Leo DiCaprio not winning an Oscar (again) back in 2013. If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, you should definitely google it, it’s a treat [screams internally]. One of the main reasons why I didn’t use a screaming sound was because I didn’t want to scare anyone and thought it would be better to go a more positive direction. I found this little 8bit song that I feel captures the “No thoughts. Head empty” vibe. The song also sounds like loading screen music, in which our frog friend’s brain is seemingly trying to load.
Hi Jordan!
Taking the meme approach was unexpected and pretty creative! The photo on it’s own brings up a few different feelings for me; it could certainly be cute and innocent, and I think the music you chose plays that up really well. The repetitiveness is especially good at invoking that “head empty” vibe.
On the other hand, there is also something a bit…intimidating about him? Something about the big, bottomless pupils, the tilt of his head, and the fact that he’s mid-croak could also come across as unsettling. I think this is also played up by this being a macro shot/close cropping. That being said, another possible pairing would be some ominous music, as if the frog’s head was very much not empty, but rather filled very evil plans. (For the record, I also thought your other idea would have been great fun.)
Technical notes: All the links seem to work just fine. I think the only formatting note would be to maybe center the photo with the audio and caption (or just have them all aligned together) just for a slightly cleaner visual.
The image and audio combined give off a fun and silly vibe. They make me think of the dancing WB frog with the top hat. In my opinion I think that the audio enhances the image and can agree that the frog looks like it’s thinking about something but can’t quit figure out what is it. The frog seems curious to me. So, I think an interesting audio that could be combined with the photo is game show music. As Leesa also stated that the frog comes off a bit ominous. When you look into the black eye it’s like staring into an endless black hole.
When clicking the links and sound bar everything is functions properly.
Hi Jordan! When I read your post title, I laughed to myself a little. That frog definitely looks like he has no thoughts in his little head. I agree with you, I like frogs from afar and would not want them jumping around or on me.
I appreciate you using more of a funny sound to represent your idea. I am easily jumpy, and a screaming sound might convey a scarier image than a humorous one. The audio reminds me of the debacle of when La La Land was mistakenly named Best Pictures at the Oscars in 2017. Also, poor Leo got snubbed from the Best Actor nomination this year.
All your links work. Agreeing with Leesa, you could maybe center your photo over your caption for a cleaner visual. I love your idea for this assignment, and I think you did a good job. The audio and photo work well together in a funny way.
Hey Jordan!
My first reaction to your photo and audio was a burst of laughter! It was a very fun experience and reminded me of Splash Mountain at Disney World for some reason?? Not sure why but it invoked images of me riding on that log through the Briar patch lol.
The more I look at the picture the more menacing the frog starts to look. It kinda gives off the vibe of mobster mean mugging you.
This was a very fun take on the assignment and I enjoyed reading through your post. All the links seemed to work fine for me.
