Hello y’all
I am very excited to entering my 2nd semester with the digital media class!

My name is Georgios Argyratos, I currently work in Broward County Libraries as a Circulation Supervisor and as I execute daily many of the librarian duties, this class comes exactly at the right time!
Living in beautiful Fort Lauderdale after 12 in NY (and originally from Athens Greece), my first degree in Opera Performance supported my musical career as a performer and a school teacher, and my love for books and libraries brought me to FSU so to expand-enrich my awareness-knowledge for Information in library science and beyond.
As my second degree- diploma comes from the Kinesiology method Alexander Technique, which helped me improve my performance skills and my awareness on and off stage, I created with my partner a Holistic Awareness Center and my ultimate goal after I finish this school is to transform it to “A Soul’s Retreat”, a unique library- center, dedicated to spiritual growth, nestled in a peaceful setting. It will house a rich collection of spiritual texts and serve as a serene space for meditation, somatic practice, workshops and performances. This sanctuary aims to be a community hub for learning, introspection, and the sharing of diverse spiritual practices, fostering an environment where every visitor can embark on a journey of self-discovery and enlightenment.
I am excited to embark on this digital media journey with all of you. Let’s collaborate, learn, and explore the dynamic world of digital media together. Here’s to a semester of creativity, discovery, and shared growth.
My very best
Georgios
Hi Georgios,
I’m thrilled to read about your excitement for the second semester of the digital media class and your diverse background. Your current role as a Circulation Supervisor in Broward County Libraries, where you execute librarian duties, makes this class particularly relevant and timely for you. It’s fascinating to learn about your journey from Athens, Greece to Fort Lauderdale, and your previous degree in Opera Performance. I’m also from Egypt to Melbourne, FL. Your passion for music and teaching shines through, and it’s wonderful to see how your love for books and libraries led you to FSU to expand your knowledge in library science and beyond.
Thank you for the Opera video you embedded here. It is fascinating.
Your enthusiasm to embark on the digital media journey and collaborate with others in exploring the dynamic world of digital media is contagious. I’m certain that your unique background and interests will add valuable perspectives to the class discussions and projects.
I wish you a semester filled with creativity, discovery, and shared growth. Your vision for “A Soul’s Retreat” is remarkable, and I have no doubt that you will continue to make a positive impact in the field of library science and beyond.
Best of luck in all your endeavors!
Abou,
Thank you so much for your kind and supporting words! They are really encouraging and at the correct time- it’s Sunday night and now for the first time I had the time to sign in to word press. We are crazy busy at my library with back to back events and also preparations for next week’s storytelling events that i will present, and then a opera- book discussion which will end with my performance…i didn’t know where to start tonight so I read first your comment! I have to say that one of my best and unforgettable trips was in Cairo and then in Sharm el’ Seik as a friend of ours with roots from Egypt was getting married, great people and amazing experiences, memories from the Mount Sina sunrise will stay forever in my heart. I have friends in Melbourne and I visit every once in a while too, lucky to be that close to NASA! I hope we will have more time to chat during the class, thank you again for your note!
Hi Georgios!
I love your post. I think you showed so many different techniques to use when posting right off the bat. My family i Italian so I love the opera video you posted. I am fascinated by all the different things you have worked on and done. I can tell you have a passion for learning and trying new things.
How do you like Broward County? I grew up in Pembroke Pines and then moved to Tallahassee for college. I love our public libraries here and they were a big part of growing up for me. We had one attached to my middle school where we would go after school for a while to work til our parents could pick us up. And every summer we would do their reading list and win prizes and it was my favorite thing to do.
I can tell you are a very calming person and love your energy. I can’t wait to see more of your work.
Ciao Alexa again!
Most important of all, you need to tell me your and your family’s best Italian restaurant in Broward. My first love was music and my second one was books, it makes sense now, as music + stories create songs. So they all come together now as I can share my talents in the small library that I work for in Fort Lauderdale. I also now exactly which is the library you are talking about as I’ve been there for training (Walter C Young). Broward has 37 libraries and more than 10 million visitors and the good thing with this is that there is lot of space to grow, gain experience and have overall a good career. I believe that as everything came together and I am able today, to blend music, books, movement classes in my library, when the time comes I will have the opportunity to create this “Soul’s retreat”, a community which will have the chance to combine, spirit, mind and body as one. For now, I am enjoying every day at the fullest in the Sunshine State with the endless summers and I am very happy to be in this class and learn more about digital media and sharing my experiences with you all! So, good to meet you again Alexa and I shall see you tomorrow in class!
Hello Georgios, I enjoyed reading your post with the mixed media approach. Moving from NY to FL must have been a big change, especially because of the weather. I too have had a similar move as I moved from Maryland to Florida just over five years ago. I hope that you are enjoying your time here in the sunshine state as much as I have.
Your arsenal of talents and interests are intriguing. I love that you are sharing those with others as seen through your work in the schools, libraries and through your holistic awareness center. I wish you much success in this class and on your future endeavors with your retreat.
Hello Marshaye, I appreciate you and your comment. same with you, I am very happy that I made it, to leave NYC and move to Fort Lauderdale, as I was saying to Alexa earlier, I enjoy every single day the sunshine, the breeze and the lightness on everything, and even with a horrible traffic I can be anywhere i need to be in thirty min. at the most vs NY which was an hour and a half at least…this is what i call quality of life! Thank you again for the wishes and let’s celebrate for our decision to be right here, right now. Cheers!
Hello Georgios! Your journey from Opera Performance in NY to Broward County Libraries is unique and inspiring! How did your background in Opera Performance and the Alexander Technique lead you to the path of library science and creating a Holistic Awareness Center? Also, the concept of “A Soul’s Retreat” sounds incredible. What inspired you to blend spirituality, literature, and somatic practices in one space? Looking forward to collaborating and exploring the dynamic world of digital media with you this semester!
Dear Tashi
Thank you for your beautiful and encouraging comment! Spirit, mind and body is one, and the progress/change starts from the top and goes to the bottom, so I think it’s time for the humanity to realize it holistically and move towards the unity of those three “levels” so we can move forward to new experiences and more expansive consciousness. As of how from opera i end up with the idea of the soul’s retreat, I didn’t plan it this way… I always loved music and stories through books, Alexander technique came as a tool for a better self awareness in my performance (F.M Alexander was teaching that mind and body is one) so then my experience is that everything in the universe is a vibration, that all is connected. Libraries today are community centers and my concept for A Soul’s retreat comes as a obvious need for communities to find easier information (books, movies, lectures, performances etc) about their spiritual connection with their bodies with the support of somatic practices and get in-spired from events that will help them to understand, embody and connect those three levels/ elements in one for their own growth and happiness. Looking forwar to working with you too and explore more of the digital world! See you tomorrow!
