Hi everyone! My name is Kaitlyn Darling and I am from Fleming Island, Florida, a small town 30 minutes south of Jacksonville. I have lived in Tallahassee since August of 2021 to finish my Bachelors degree in IT. I graduated last year and now am two semesters into my Master’s degree in IT as well. I am currently not working at the moment but would like to get a part time job this semester. However, during my last semester of my undergrad program here at FSU I had the amazing opportunity to be apart of the Spring 2023 ITS Intern Cohort for the Information Technology Services department. I was grouped with three other seniors and we worked with Microsoft as Solutions Architects to fix a problem on campus. We chose to introduce digital literacy courses to FSU’s curriculum. We spent our time researching, interviewing faculty, and surveying students. The ITS department, my fellow interns, and our Microsoft contacts made this experience an unforgettable one that I recommend to all students in my program/similar ones. Some other ideas we had were also implemented such as redesigning the FSUTranz parking app for on campus parking garages. Having my fellow interns and I’s thoughts and opinions not only listened to but real changes occurring meant so much to us.
My favorite hobby that takes up most of my free time is reading. I used to be an avid reader when I was younger but picked it back up last year. I enjoy most genres such as fantasy, romance, and mystery but prefer series more than standalone books. During my undergrad program I was Vice President of Women Wednesday’s, a social and mentoring organization. We also published blogs, one of my favorites I wrote was, 20 Books to Read in Your Twenties. I recommended a variety of books that offer wisdom, inspiration, and life lessons. One aspect of this class that interests me is these blogs. I enjoy writing as well as reading about others and their thoughts. I hope to gain a better understanding of media analysis during my time in this class. I wish the best to all of you this semester !! 🙂
Hi Kaitlyn,
Thanks for sharing more about yourself! You’ve made quite an impact at FSU. Since you love reading and writing, I think you are going to enjoy this course. I am interested in knowing what you’d like to do once you graduate career-wise.
I just recently got into reading this past year and have listened to audit books like Verity by Colleen Hoover and Happy Place by Emily Henry. If you like romance and a bit of suspense, I think you’d like both of those books. I will for sure be checking out the article you wrote on the 20 Books to read in your 20s because I am looking for new authors and books to explore. Do you prefer a paperback or a Kindle?
Hi Kaitlyn!
Thanks for your post; I enjoyed reading more about you!! First, is that the Cummer Museum in your photo? I definitely need to make a trip out there soon. Second, it was really cool to see how much you’ve accomplished in the last couple of years. I’m also going to check out your linked blog post because I feel like a list of books to read in my twenties is absolutely critical information.
I am glad that someone shares even part of my experience with living 30 minutes to an hour away from anything worth doing in Jacksonville. Luckily, Fleming Island is starting to really take off and there’s more to do now than there had been.
What are your favorite books? I’m definitely a series person too. I spend most of my time attempting to read middle school novels, which are fun, but I want something more edgy at times too. I’d love to hear your recommendations for fantasy or mystery. I have a ton of books on my TBD, but I still feel the need to add more.
Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful semester!
Hi Kaitlyn! I loved your submission for Media Lab 01 (Blogging). First off, I love the creativity of your title. Before I even began reading, I had a preview of your personality and the tone of the blog. Additionally, I liked that you included your photo at the beginning of the blog post because it gave me the face of the writer as I read the blog. The photo you included was also gorgeous and brought me right back to FSU. Although I attended FSU for my undergraduate degree, I haven’t been back to Tallahassee since I graduated.
After reading your blog post in its entirety, I thought you did a thorough job of illustrating who you are, what you do, and your interests. I also really enjoyed reading the blog post you linked and thought the way you linked it was not awkward and did not disrupt the flow of the reader. I am an avid reader in my 20’s and definitely took note of what books I should read next. Thank you for the recommendations and have a great semester!
