“We have all a better guide in ourselves, if we would attend to it, than any other person can be.”
Mansfield Park, Jane Austen

Hello all! My name is Michaela and I am from the Bay Area in sunny California. I am in my second semester at FSU pursuing my MS in Information Science. My hope is to become either an academic or school librarian. I am currently an instructional aide in a special day elementary classroom as well as a library aide at a public library.
Almost every morning before going to work I swing by the Dutch Bros two minutes away to get my needed coffee. My go to order is a double chocolate iced mocha. I am almost always listening to an audiobook when I get a chance, and one of my goals for 2024 is to read 80 books (I have finished 6 so far)! Over the winter break I went to different California counties with my friends to get library cards to add to my Libby account. This is how I can afford listening to so many audiobooks. One of my favorite authors is Jane Austen and I love listening to the podcast Pod and Prejudice.

I live with my family, which includes three cats: Ranger, Henry and Benedict. I also have three younger brothers (Grant, Jack and Ethan), two that I live with and one that lives in Oregon. When I am with my brothers I like to watch movies, go on walks downtown and take trips to Disneyland whenever we can. I will force my brothers to listen to Taylor Swift, London Grammar or other music on my various playlists when we are driving around.
I also love to travel. My most exciting adventure is when I almost got stuck in London during March 2020 with my childhood friend. We made it back to California just in time for the lockdown. My favorite form of travel is going on Disney cruises. I love being able to curl up with a good book and watch the ocean pass by, and also win Disney trivia.
I am so excited for this semester and this class. I am interested to learn on how to incorporate digital media into the field of library science. I am excited to be creative with the different digital project and improve my skills.
Hi Michaela, it’s great to “meet” you! I have become absolutely obsessed with Dutch Bros since moving out west. Their golden eagle iced chai has a hold on me like a vice grip. I’m a big fan of Libby, too. I currently have six library cards linked to my account. Thanks for sharing a photo of handsome Benedict! Is he a Taylor Swift fan, as well? I hope you’re enjoying the MSI program and that you have a great second semester. Good luck with your 80 books goal – you got this!
You had me at Jane Austen! Plus, it didn’t hurt that, in addition to Ms. Austen, we share a passion(?) for coffee and chocolate. Aside from the power of personal resonance as an indicator of whether a blog reader will connect with a particular post – and I think that is a question worth pondering, considering the focus of this class in which we are enrolled – I vividly saw the snippets of your shared life. If I had to parse your comments, however, I’m not sure I could identify why they seemed especially evocative, Perhaps it is the smells of coffee and chocolate that are suggested, sensuously speaking. Visually speaking, I saw a large cache of library cards, which I found pleasing. Perhaps, it is the inclusion of your three cats? I find animals make others very human. Wish we could sip some mocha and discuss Jane.
Hello there, Michaela! Nice to meet you. As a fellow cat person, I found your intro blog an exceptional read. Now, I need to decide if the two cats I currently have, Kolache and Larry, could use another sibling. Three is the lucky number! I’ll also need to add Dutch Bros to my list of places to check out when I’m out West. As an avid coffee drinker, you make it sound very appealing. Your book goal is very ambitious, and I respect that. I recently joined a book club and hope to read more myself. I should consider adding audiobooks into the mix to help me clear a few more this year! Happy to have you as a classmate, and I hope you have a wonderful semester!
