If there’s one thing I hate writing about it’s myself.

Hi all! My name is Jackie Smith and I’m from a small town on the Jersey Shore and no it’s nothing like the tv show. However, we do have the best bagels, best pizza, best boardwalks, and the worst drivers.

I’m currently residing in Tallahassee just north of FSU, where I am earning my MA in Public Interest Media and Communications and starting this semester I will be working towards earning a certificate in School Librarian Leadership.
I have my BA in Political Science with a minor in Women and Genders Studies as well as a certificate in Theater Management from Rutgers. If it’s not obvious I am completely undecided with what I want to do with the rest of my life and so right now I’m winging this grad school thing. I am currently interning with the Seminole Dinning’s marketing department to see if that’s an avenue I want to pursue. I am also heavily considering working as a School Librarian and potentially earning my MS in Information Studies here at FSU.
In terms of this class I am most looking forward to the digital story. I am hoping to improve my creative writing skills throughout the semester. Even though I have tons of artsy experience from photography and stage design I feel like my creative writing is lacking.

Beyond my academic studies I am into live music, photography, gaming, and my dog Blu. My favorite band is Shinedown (featured above) who I’ve seen live six times since 2019! My current gaming obsession is Baldur’s Gate 3 aka The 2023 Game of the Year (sorry not sorry Spiderman fans). Last but not least, an honorable mention to my dog Blu Bell aka The Beast. She’s a pit mix and the light of my life, who unfortunately is back home with my parents in New Jersey.

Hello, Jackie! It is great to meet you. I understand not knowing what you want to do ‘when you grow up’. I started with a BA in fashion merchandising with minors in marketing and creative writing, got an MA in elementary education, and now I am back in grad school for the second time for my MSI. The way I like to think about it is that I am collecting a variety of skills that will make me more marketable in the future.
My husband and I just got Baldur’s Gate 3. We haven’t played much yet, but it seems to be a lot of fun. My husband is more the gamer of our family, but I love to watch him, and since Baldur’s Gate 3 allows for two players, we wanted to have something to do together. How far have you made it in the game?
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jackie. How are you enjoying Florida compared to Jersey, I’m sure that was a change, especially the weather. I understand not knowing what you want to do, I have a criminology degree and I work in finance. I think Florida has the worst drivers and the college students make it worse. LOL
My cousin is a gamer too and has traveled to different events. Sadly, I am not a gamer and I didn’t know it was as serious as it is. I hope you have a great spring semester.
Hey Jackie!
As someone who has a best friend in NY I think I am obligated to say that they have the best bagels but I have never had a NJ bagel so who really knows! I swear there is something different in the water up there that makes those bagels so tasty!
I understand not knowing what you want to do as a career path. My undergraduate degree was in biology and I had minors in public health and nanoscience and thought I wanted to work in research. Obviously, since I am getting my MSI, a career working in a lab has fallen to the wayside.
I am not the most creative person. My twin sister and I often joke that I got the “left brain” thinking and she got the “right brain” thinking in the womb since she is the creative one and I am more mathematical/logical.
Cute puppers! I also have a pit mix and she is the best! Looking forward to a great semester and I hope you enjoy it as well.
