The original photo is a picture I took during a boat ride in Tampa. The original picture is nice however I wanted to capture more of the ocean and sun than I did the sky. Cropping this picture changed the focal point and made me able to focus on the things that I wanted to see. I normally try not to crop images because I am always afraid I’ll accidentally get rid of something important in the background.
Love the image of the sun and how vibrant the color is against the waves. I do appreciate the detail of the waves when you zoomed in; the light and dark of waves truly stands out more than what I noticed from the first image. What I find hard is there is alot of symmetry in the waves and hard to see if there is a focal point as alot of the waves go into each other, and I feel that if there was a contrasting color/object, it would be easier to focus on something in the second image more as well. I am asking what it would look like if the horizon was shifted to the left or right – in the cross hairs of the Rule of Thirds, so the contrasting color of the sun/sunset/horizon offsets the waves somewhat. Wonder what the waves would look like if you just happened to capture a small segment of the horizon with the lighter color. Nice job in presenting these two, as I feel alot of possibilities could come out of this š
Hello Jasmyn! Your photo is beautiful and brings fond memories of summer boat rides in Florida. I can understand your hesitation to crop images for fear of removing something important, but I often find that without cropping the viewers miss important information due to a lack of focus and it is with cropping that you highlight that important information they would otherwise miss. Your cropped image is stunning, the textures of the wave are gorgeous, and my eyes bounce back and forth between the canvas. I do find for the purpose of this assignment, it would have been more successful to find an image (or something in your image, like the sun for example or a particular wave peak) that you could use as a single focal point (versus the entirety of the water). That way the viewer can see your utilization of the rule of thirds more clearly. Iām still learning about copyright captioning, but think it would be helpful to include a copyright caption for your images as well.
