Fun Fact: This blog title is apparently a song? I’m just learning this.

Hey! I’m Alex, I’m 28 years old, and I’m in my second semester of the MSI program. My pronouns are she/her or they/them. Nice to meetcha!
My partner Will and I live in Columbus, Ohio in a little fixer-upper home with our four spoiled cats. If there weren’t limits on photos for this blog, I would LOVE to spam you all with cat pictures. But alas.
I was born in a middle-of-nowhere town called Toronto, Ohio (which is coincidentally where a famous FSU coach was also born, apparently?), but I also spent a chunk of my childhood in Dunedin, Florida. And that’s where my love for books and libraries started, thanks to my Gramma Kathie. We spent hours at our local branch reading together.
I didn’t see librarianship in my future, though. That came after graduating from Ohio State with a degree in Japanese Language and Literature in 2016. I really didn’t know what I wanted to do as a career, so I went with what interested me at the time.
It took a few more years, an ADHD diagnosis, some realizations about what I want out of life and how I want to contribute to society, ETCETERA! before I made the decision to jump into all of this. So far, every class I’ve taken has affirmed my decision.
Thanks for reading. As a gift, here is my gramma’s recipe for pumpkin drop cookies, because they rock and you deserve good things.

Hi Alex! Thank you for the recipe, that’s right up my alley because this year I really want to get more into baking, I don’t think I’m the best at it because baking really is science, so simple little recipes like this I do truly appreciate. I too am a lover of books, but lately I’ve moved from science fiction books that delve into other worlds and dimensions to now being hooked on romance novels, not the cheesy ones, but the ones that really make you cry. If you have any suggestions for some of your favorite romance novels or book community favorites please please let me know! Good luck with your fixer upper!
I hope you like the recipe! I’m pretty bad at baking, but these are luckily pretty simple. It was one of the first things we baked in our kitchen once we made it usable! This house was in baaaad shape.
So oddly enough, sci-fi and romance are the two genres I really haven’t read much of! But I did a quick peruse of my StoryGraph app for recommendations for ya. If you aren’t familiar, it’s an app/website keeps track of what you’ve read and want to read – extremely handy.
It reminded me of a book I read last year called Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. This one is more sci-fi, as I couldn’t find any romance-y ones I’ve read recently. It was really interesting, and easy to fall into the futuristic world laid out by the author without suspending disbelief too much. I learned after finishing the book that it’s a loose sequel to her other books, so the recommended order is Station Eleven, The Glass Hotel, THEN Sea of Tranquility.
Hey, Alex! I love that you posted a recipe–especially one from your grandmother. I’m vegan, but I bet I could substitute the eggs with flax or something. I love all things pumpkin, so I’m definitely going to give it a try!
I also love books and reading, and I also have very fond memories of visiting my local library branch and checking out every single Nancy Drew book I could get my hands on. I’m going to out myself as a horse girl, but I also tore through what I’m pretty sure was every horse-related book ever written.
I’m glad I got to comment on your post. I was worried I wouldn’t have much to say, but your post was great and engaging.
BTW, I’m thrilled to be a piece of Ikea furniture; I too feel like sometimes I’m missing pieces and should come with instructions lol.
If you experiment with the recipe, let me know!! As long as you have a binding agent, the pumpkin should take care of the texture and yumminess.
Hehe, I was a horse girl, too! That is, until I met a horse in real life and found I was/am scared of them. LOL
IKEA instructions sometimes make things MORE complicated. I’m sure you’re better off writing your own instructions as you go! Thanks for your comment!
