“Footnotes” is a weekly podcast that delves into all genres of books and brings on different guests with a special interest or knowledge on that week’s book/topic the book addresses. The soft background music is intended to create a cozy, coffee shop type feel that allows the listener to relax during the episode. I wanted it to feel like the they were getting ready to sit down with a good book themselves. The sound effect of the page turning served as a signal that the title of the book was about to be announced.

I wanted the podcast art to reflect the same feeling that the podcast has: cozy vibes and good reads. The coffee and book gives the air of sitting in a tucked away corner of a coffee shop while the green text complements the soft browns, greens, and pinks of the picture. I used some of the techniques we have learned, such as the rule of thirds, to crop the original image.

Creating Focus

My teenager and I decided that the coldest day of the season, January 31st, 2026, would be a fantastic day to go to DisneyWorld. I took the picture on the left at Disney’s Hollywood Studios while walking toward The Tower of Terror. The original picture has no focal point, emotional impact, and no story is being told.

I wanted to focus on creating a focal point. The tower itself was an easy selection, but I wanted to make sure it was dynamic. Instead of centering the tower, I made sure to use the rule of thirds and put it in the upper right corner. This also accomplished cropping out unnecessary details, such as the signs and stalls off to the side.

When approaching this project, I knew I wanted to find an image that portrayed the stars or the ocean; something that created a sense of vastness. I usually try to find positivity and hope in every situation, so I decided to try to create something that goes somewhat against that. I wanted something that gave the feeling of realizing how we are a tiny part of a huge universe. This image feels like the creator is far off from maybe a place they would rather be, framed by the endless, starry sky.

Adding this specific piece of music does transform the picture. If a more ethereal, upbeat piece was put with it, it could invoke a feeling of potential and reaching for your dreams. The chosen piece is more somber and haunting, as its creator put it, leading to a sense of sadness and being lost.

The Twists and Turns That Led Me Here

Photo: Christina Mumpower

Hello everyone! My name is Christina Mumpower and I am currently in my second semester as a Masters in Information student at Florida State University. I received my bachelors in Education Sciences at the University of Florida in May 2025. I was born and raised in California, but after a few moves thanks to my Navy husband, we have settled just south of Jacksonville, Florida. I also have a 17-year-old junior in high school whom I adore.

I currently work at an elementary school in the Clay County School District as a media tech (library assistant). I love my job and have my Media certificate, but school media specialist jobs are becoming harder to find in this district. I obtained my 6-12 English certificate as well and hope to be in a teaching position next school year.

I am an older student, having paused my schooling for various reasons. As I started working in schools, I fell in love with my media tech job and decided that I wanted to be a librarian, whether it be in a high school, college, or a public library. This led me to go back to school so I could reach that goal. Better late than never!

This class piqued my interest as I have started dabbling in media presentations for lessons I create and know that adding visual interest and interactivity to lessons can lead to more engaged students.

When I am not working or studying, I try to travel as much as possible, attend trivia nights with my friends every week, and go to as many ECHL hockey games as possible (go Icemen!). I also am an avid reader, which probably comes as no surprise. I look forward to learning with you all!
