Podcast Description
I’ve recently been introduced to the world of Sarah J. Maas (SJM). I was immediately sucked into the world of A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) with Sarah’s intricate world-building and personable characters. I’ve not even read all of her released titles yet, but for the first time in my life, I have an immediate answer to “Who’s your favorite author?” After having read Throne of Glass, I was astounded to learn that the creation of this world and these characters were written from the imagination of a sixteen-year-old. In my podcast, A Podcast of Maas Destruction, I and other SJM lovers would discuss the titles across all three of the current series, theories, fan fiction, characters, and much more. This podcast would connect like-minded readers and encourage them to expand the depth of these artworks.

Marketing Elements
Each aspect of the marketing medium was selected for a specific purpose. I couldn’t find any images that had any meaning to the story that weren’t also copyrighted against derivatives. So I created an image based on a tattoo I have in honor of the series and my love of reading. Each element is a creative common that allows derivatives. The image created from these single aspects is from the ACOTAR series, from the mountain range, Ramiel, to the three stars shining above the highest mountain peak. The quote added to the marketing media is one of the most popular from the series and goes well with the stars added and included in the background. When choosing the background, I wanted something that had multiple colors and would allow a sense of depth. The circle graphic with the text overlay was placed to portray a moon. A crescent moon would have been more appropriate for SJM’s Cresent City series, but this still went well with the night sky theme and still nods to her creations.

Sound Elements
As with the marketing media elements, each element chosen for the podcast was very intentional. Multiple pieces of music were created for ACOTAR and played in the background of many TikTok videos. This is different from the TikTok music, but I did use that music as inspiration when I went searching. I wanted an ambient song that felt fantastical and cinematic for this ‘romantasy’ series. I chose this piece because of the beautiful music, but I also wanted the music to include an uptick pace to create excitement and adventure. I’ll admit, I did start getting carried away with my sound effects. I knew I wanted a surprise gasp after I said “plot holes,” but I had originally had sounds for “heroic battles” (clashing swords) and “epic loves” (sighing). I made a design choice though and took out those two choices because I couldn’t fit everything I wanted into a 30-second clip, and three sound effects in that amount of time made the audio sound more like satire than I wanted it to.
