Hello, everyone! My name is\u00a0Nya<\/strong>bi ( \u201cNy\u201d like \u201cSky\u201d) and I live in Miami, FL. This is my second to last semester in the MSI program; I am also pursuing the School Librarian Leadership certificate!\u00a0I am really looking forward to this class and am excited to get to know you all!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Journey So Far:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I began working in libraries while studying as an undergraduate student at Hampshire College. For the past 4 years, I have worked at the\u00a0University of Miami\u2019s Richter Library where I manage the\u00a0Peer Research Consultant program<\/a>,\u00a0and staff our Research Help Desk. In this role, I get the opportunity to manage a wonderful group of student workers and aid the liaison librarians with research consultations, library instruction sessions, along with other fun programs held in our library Learning Commons, such as our upcoming\u00a0Crafternoon event<\/a>! hope to continue working with college-level students, potentially as a subject liaison or student success librarian, however I am open to other opportunities in various school settings.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hobbies and Special Interests:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

School and work keep me pretty busy, but when I\u2019m not reading, I enjoy hanging out with my family (including my two\u00a0children<\/s>\u00a0cats Eli and Esme), playing Stardew Valley, and working on various (slowly progressing) sewing and crochet projects! I am working towards crocheting my first sweater (although I may settle for a nice vest if I get tired of single crocheting my way through\u00a0this pattern<\/a>). I also enjoy musicals (Hadestown is my favorite) and watching reality TV, particularly Survivor and Big Brother! If you are also impatiently waiting for the\u00a0Survivor: Season 50<\/a>\u00a0premiere,\u00a0do not<\/strong>\u00a0hesitate to reach out, aside from romance books, there is nothing I like talking about more!! <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Here is a picture of my two cats. Esme enjoys her personal space… and Eli also enjoys Esme’s personal space. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Why LIS 5313?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I already enjoy many aspects of design. At work I have helped with several artistic projects such as creating event posters, designing research guides<\/a>, and using Adobe Premiere to edit an informational video titled \u201cUsing AI for Research<\/a>.\u201d I hope to learn many more tips to improve my creative instinct, and help me make better design choices. I am particularly excited to learn more about typography. Personally, I can spend hours just selecting fonts, so I am curious to learn more about the theories designers use to help with these choices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
