The Knock

Synopsis: This story is about a strange knocking on a bedroom door late at night. The camera investigates and discovers it is best not to answer the door.

I captured the video footage and recorded subtle sound effects, including quiet taps and background voices on my iPhone 16. Video editing was completed using iMovie and Canva, Audacity was used for sound design.

My podcast is for my fantasy football league. In this podcast, I discuss, usually with other members of the league, how the league is going and our opinions on players and other teams. I started this podcast with another member in my league last year but never recorded an intro. I am glad I was able to do this now, and hopefully, I will use it in my future podcast episodes! My podcast intro included my voice welcoming listeners and introducing what the podcast would cover. It also has background music and some sound effects from a football practice.

Bondi Beach: Capturing the Perfect Image

“Bondi City” by Kristopher DeMarco 2.1.2025 CC BY-NC 2.0

I chose to work with an image of Bondi Beach in Australia. The original photo captured the entire beach with wide open spaces and a busy scene. While the beach itself is beautiful, the photo felt cluttered and chaotic with so many different things going on. There was no clear focal point and it was hard to know where to focus your attention in the image.

In my cropped version, I made significant changes. Instead of trying to capture the whole beach, I zoomed in on the buildings along the shoreline. I opted for a panoramic crop, which allowed me to tighten the frame and cut out the crowded beach scene. This focus includes the water but cuts out all the people and beach scenes. This made the focus entirely on the city building, creating a more structured scene for the viewer.

I applied the rule of thirds in my crop, positioning the buildings along the left vertical line to draw the viewers attention directly to them. I also avoided a centered composition to create a more natural flow, guiding the viewer’s eye form the building to the water. This created a better senes of balance in the image. Another feature I incorporated was the use of negative space to draw the attention of the viewer to the city. I cropped out a lot of extra noise that was distracting. This simplified the background to focus the viewers eyes on the city.

This cropped image transformed the busy, overwhelming original image into something more intentional and balanced. It focused the viewer’s attention on the architectural beauty of the city and its relationship with the ocean.

Galaxy of Dreams

The vastness of space has always interested me. Something is mesmerizing about the way stars and space seem to go on forever in the night sky. This is an image of M31, otherwise known as the Andromeda Galaxy. This image, “M31 09-01-2011” by Torben Hansen, captures millions of stars and at least three galaxies. The Andromeda galaxy is the closest to our own, the Milky Way, about 2.5 million light-years away. The audio clips enhance this image by playing calming and dreamy music. As I listen to this music and stare at the image, a sense of serenity washes over me allowing my mind to drift into deep reflection about our existence. What is the purpose of life? Is there other life out there? I like to ponder these questions and am reminded to sometimes take a moment, reflect, and appreciate the complexities and beauty of life. We are so small in the grand scheme of things, yet we are deeply interconnected to everything around us. I hope you all enjoy the picture and audio and take time to reflect on your own lives and the wonder of space.

The Life of Kris (So Far):

Hello, classmates! My name is Kristopher DeMarco, but I prefer just Kris. I was born in Michigan, lived in Nevada, and eventually moved to Florida in 2010. My hometown is Naples and I go back there every so often to see my parents. Currently, I live in Tallahassee, right next to campus. I love being close to campus, as I appreciate a good walk or run through the university. I have two bachelors degrees from the University of Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers. After obtaining my second degree, I knew my next step was a graduate degree. I love being in school and hope to continue my education throughout my life. Deciding on FSU for graduate school was an easy choice because I previously lived and attended FSU and enjoyed it thoroughly. Not to mention the cost of in-state tuition is much cheaper! I am in the MSIT program in my second semester and so far, it has been going well, and I have enjoyed learning about IT. I am also pursuing the Information Architecture and User Services Graduate Certificate. I was recently hired as an intern for the virtualization team at FSU’s Information Technology Services. There I hope to continue my learning and narrow down exactly what type of IT I want to delve into. I am interested in cybersecurity and usability. Some of my hobbies include reading traveling, watching sports and movies, and video games. I love reading thrillers and just finished a great Dean Koontz novel, TickTock. It was a quick read but entertaining nonetheless, I recommend it if you like thrillers! I watch many sports events and occasionally will bet when I am feeling risky, although usually I do not win any money. My favorite sports teams that I follow religiously include the LA Chargers, Miami Heat, and Atalanta BC. I am so excited to take this class, specifically working with web-based tools. Last semester, I took Design and Production of Network Multimedia and enjoyed it a lot. We created a basic website using HTML and CSS, which I want to learn more about. I hope to gain knowledge and more experience with website tools in this class and meet peers interested in similar aspects of IT.

I leave you all with a picture of one of my favorite events I have ever witnessed: the solar eclipse in Texas in April of this year!
