Looksmaxxing

Looksmaxxing. The male beauty standard.

I filmed all the videos myself on my iPhone 13. I used OpenShot as my video editor, Audacity as my audio editor, Canva for my credits and creating the social media app called “Looksmaxxing.” My audio was sourced from ccMixter and my images are from Pexels.

Sound Elements

For this podcast’s intro: I lowered the pitch of my voice recording. The background music is the electronic hardstyle track “H O L D M E B A C K” by SO SHA. I also used the voice clip “The face you are looking for no longer exists” and the sound effect “Answering Machine BEEP 1,” both sourced from Freesound. The purpose of incorporating these sounds was to create an exciting and motivational podcast designed to improve the quality of life for listeners.

Dog in the sun

My dog isn’t a fan of the cold, so putting a sweater on him is a must! I snapped a photo of him outside in the grass, and although it was a great photo of him, he could really capture the spotlight more with some editing!

The original image was a bit messy, with distractions like his shadow and uneven lighting. I adjusted the temperature to cooler colors and decided to use less contrast. I also made sure to crop the photo make him the focal point. I cropped the image using the “rule of thirds.” Instead of keeping him in the center, I positioned him at the top right intersection of the imaginary grid. This made him instantly more dynamic. Cropping also allowed me to remove his shadow and some of the distracting background.

The edited image is much better! He is definitely the main character now.

When looking for an image, I chose to look through pictures through my photo gallery. It was very easy to choose my pets as inspiration. This image looks even deeper now that it looks like he is looking out into the far distance.

sleepless nights wandering

This sound and image resonated with me because I wanted to capture the feeling of kenopsia, which is strongly linked to the atmosphere of liminal spaces. Liminal spaces, which are transitional places, often create a feeling of uncertainty and being disconnected. I was trying to recreate that sensation you get when you’re wandering alone, and everything feels a little off, or even nostalgic. It’s a hard feeling to describe, but it’s the one I get when I’m staring out the car window on a cool fall night, lost in thought, or when I’m walking around an empty campus at night with my music on.

This meaning is enhanced when you put the image and audio together as the audio brings the eerie vibe to complement the dark and spacious parking garage. When you put these together it can possibly recreate the feelings that I once felt before. There is a bit of an anxious feeling when looking at the picture and listening to parts of the audio. Especially because I hear a sort of footsteps and some kind of echo. The music isn’t too dark either because this feeling isn’t supposed to be scary. Its supposed to be comforting and reminiscent of those sleepless nights.

Hello World

Hey y’all, my name is Heather Kwak. I was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. I lived in Tallahassee when I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree in IT, but I moved back home after I graduated. I work at a local high school as an IT Coordinator. I am responsible for providing technical support and troubleshooting for high school students and faculty, with a specific focus on iPads used by students

I have always been into some form of arts and crafts. I love painting with acrylic, drawing with charcoal, making Kandi cuffs, and using the sewing machine. I am excited to create videos in this class since I used to create animated videos using game characters from Maple Story as a child and have used programs like Windows Movie Maker and Sony Vegas.

I have two dogs at home named Junpyo and Khalifa. The photo on the right is a photo of Khalifa when she was a puppy. I also used to have a cat named Pumpkin and she is missed very much.

I am looking forward to learning about copyright because it has always been hard for me to wrap my head around it on my own when I was creating videos as a 12 years old.
