Lynn’s Let’s Play Gaming Reviews is a podcast for non-gamers and gamers ranging from the casual beginners to hard core video game players. Every week on Sunday, I will review and talk about a video game of my choice. This can range from the old retro games to the “Blockbuster” AAA games. I will you give pros and cons about the games and whether or not if it was worth the purchase. In addition, I will give you in game tips, tricks, and possible glitches to look out for. In this episode, I will be reviewing the indie action-adventure game Death’s Door.
For this podcast, I used a variety of video game sound effects, music, and voice overs. From the beginning, I used a small glitch wave sound effect quickly following a kind of 80’s type video game introduction music to get the listeners to feel like they are about to start a new video game. Next I try to fade out the 80’s introduction music and fade in a video game loop background music and my voice over at the same time. I chose this background music because it has fairy tale ambience to it and I want the listener feel like they are beginning a new adventure game with me. I lowered the volume of the background music to be able to hear my voice over more clearly. At the end, I faded out the background music and added the press start sound effect to signal that the podcast was about to begin, similar to pressing start in an actual video game.

Hi Lynn,
This was a very entertaining post! It could pass for the real deal. I particularly enjoyed the retro sounds, although I suppose a retro/modern mix might be better for a podcast that includes newer games. That being said, the tone and sound pacing was pretty good. One small change I would suggest would be to end the intro sound with a game sound, similar to a “one-up” or coin grab from Mario to punctuate the end of it. Otherwise, it was pretty creative. The color and plain design for the retro vibe fit really well. Especially the intro summary. It was good for concurrent and new listeners alike.
